Background

Established in February 1994, the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association (NSCSA) is a not-for-profit association funded by and responsible to the construction industry.

The NSCSA’s mandate is to effect a positive culture shift within the provincial construction industry. This culture shift is brought about through the use of strategic interventions intended to create an environment which makes this change possible.

The NSCSA delivers safety education and other safety oriented services in every region of Nova Scotia. These services acknowledge the growing awareness of the direct relationship between effective safety programs and bottom line profits. The effectiveness of safety programs is measured by decreases in injuries to our fellow workers, decreases in financial loss in equipment and property damage, decreases in compensation and liability cost, and improved competitiveness and profits for the industry.

The Association’s Board of Directors are responsible for policy and budget approval and include representatives from private industry, unions and government. Day-to-day operations of the Association are managed by the General Manager and the NSCSA staff.

New and ongoing initiatives are guided by sound management principles along with input from our membership and stakeholders.

Goals

To provide user driven services and products.

To foster shared values within our community of interest.

To continually improve our operational quality and efficiency.

To ensure adequate financial resources to achieve our Mission.

To promote broader safety awareness to youth through the education and appropriate interventions which foster participation in and support of a positive safety culture.
