Contract Positions

The Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association offers safety training and safety related services in every region of the province. We are always looking to improve the level of service we can provide to our stakeholders by developing new auditors and trainers. If you are interested in providing contract services to the NSCSA, please review the qualifications and requirements by clicking on the links below.

Contract Advisor - Auditor
Contract advisors review audits which are submitted to the NSCSA. They may also visit a company to perform a safety audit on-site. They will conduct member service visits to provide advice and assistance to companies who are preparing a safety program. In addition, they prepare and submit audit reports to the NSCSA office.

Professional qualifications:

  • Five years construction-related experience
  • NSCSA Construction Safety Supervisor designation
  • Successful completion of the NSCSA Audit Advisors' Workshop
  • Successful completion of the NSCSA/Dept. of Labour OH&S Act Certification Program (16 hrs)
  • Team Audit with a designated Advisor at the direction of the NSCSA. Upon review of the team audit report, the NSCSA will determine potential advisors suitability to deliver NSCSA services.

Advisors must complete or participate in the following:

  • Completion of the PLCL
  • Periodic professional development sessions, as offered by the NSCSA

Contract Advisor - Trainer
Trainers are contracted to deliver one or more NSCSA courses (click here to see Course/Program Descriptions).

Personal qualifications:

  • Background in construction or related field.
  • Post-secondary education is a definite asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of the OH&S Act, Regulations and applicable Codes of Practice.
  • Experience in the delivery of adult vocational or safety training an asset.
  • Potential training service providers must successfully complete each course twice and then at the discretion of the Director of Safety Services, they may be required to team teach.
  • Individual requirements may vary depending upon the individual's experience and skill sets.
  • Construction Safety Supervisor (CSS) exception may be considered for a trainer providing a specialty service.

Potential trainers must complete the following:

  • Construction Safety Supervisor (CSS) Program
  • Train the Trainer
  • Principles of Loss Control Leadership correspondence course (within one year from successful team teach). Each trainer is responsible for paying his/her own fees. Upon successful completion, the
  • NSCSA will reimburse 50 per cent of the course fee within the first year of employment.
  • Potential trainer will be evaluated on suitability and accuracy.

Potential trainers of our COR program must participate in the following:

  • Completion of the four COR courses (Principles of Loss Control, Principles of Loss Control Audit,
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence and Safety Orientation)
  • Successful completion of the OH&S Train the Trainer Program as offered by the NSCSA from 06/97 onward.
  • Audit of each program to be delivered.
  • Team teach each course with a designated trainer at the direction of the NSCSA. Upon review of the team teach report, the Director of Safety Services will determine potential trainer's suitability to deliver NSCSA courses.

In addition, trainers must complete or participate in the following:

  • Professional development sessions (as offered by the NSCSA).
  • A regular evaluation process.
