FAQ
Q: Is the NSCSA a government department or part of the Workers'
Compensation Board?
A: No, the NSCSA is an independent, not-for-profit association that is
funded by the Nova Scotia construction industry.
Q: If I see a construction worker working unsafely, can I report it to
you?
A: The NSCSA is not a regulatory or enforcement agency. We do not inspect
construction sites for unsafe working conditions or violations of occupational
health and safety legislation. Firms can call on us for advice and expertise in
health and safety. We can't make anyone do anything they don't want to do,
but we are here for anyone who wants our assistance.
Q: Do you provide training in the all of Nova Scotia?
A: Our training courses and COR services are available across Nova
Scotia if requested. You can find out where our courses
are located by viewing our Training Schedule.
Q: I've been working in the construction industry for over 16 years.
Why are you trying to tell me how to do my job?
A: Because of the inherent risks involved in construction (working at heights,
heavy lifting, using machinery and power tools), experienced trades people
and new workers entering the industry need to understand the very real
hazards involved in construction. We don't want to tell you how to do your
job, but we do want to help you understand how to do it safely.
Q: Do you provide services outside the construction industry?
A: Workplace safety is a universal concern, and our services are used by
other construction-related industries like trucking and steel erection.
However, there is a different rate structure for companies that do not fall
under our membership codes.
Q: Do you only provide safety training and auditing?
A: We use any interventions at our disposal to help promote awareness of
safety issues. These include special events, newsletters, publications, our
website, consulting, partnerships and information sessions. We welcome
feedback and suggestions - you can contact us at nscsa@nscsa.org.
