Health And Safety Policy - Interpretation Guide
How it applies
Organizations may use a variety of different formats for their safety policy. Policies may be individual documents (as outlined in the PLC program) or a comprehensive text covering a wide range of commitments. This section measures the specific requirements of the main safety policy.
Question 1.1
The main policy statement must be signed by the highest local authority such as a branch manager or regional manager.
Question 1.4
"Current" means dated within 12 months of the actual COR evaluation date. This requirement applies to the master copy or document matrix, where one exists. Display copies must contain the same content, however the display date may reflect date of issue.
Question 1.5
If the policy is signed and dated within the past 12 months, this constitutes review. Management may also have a document (memo, minutes of meetings) that demonstrates the policy and/or entire program has gone through a review process. This is an acceptable alternative.
Question 1.6
"Posted" means displayed on the wall in a shop or office environment. In operations where a shop or office does not exist, policy may be posted in a site trailer or kept in a company vehicle.

The safety policy must reference general responsibilities of workplace parties in regard to occupational health and safety. Details regarding specific responsibilities may be captured in a separate document or be dispersed throughout the program.

The policy must contain a statement that addresses management’s commitment to work with employees in a spirit of cooperation and consultation regarding issues relating to occupational health and safety.

Employees must have a general understanding of the intent of the policy.
