Q. Is the WHMIS that I took with my CSTS good for Nova Scotia?
A. No. The WHIMIS that is taken as part of the CSTS is an overview only and is good in Alberta only. You must take a complete course for Nova Scotia. You can take this through the Carpenter Millwright Trades College, 902.454.5100
Q. Is my Confined Space Generic from New Brunswick okay for the pre-requisite on the practical?
A. If you are going to be working in New Brunswick, then yes it is. If you are working in Nova Scotia then you need to take the Nova Scotia general course.
Q. How do I get certified?
A. There is a wide variety of certification that is available from the NSCSA. For specific information, contact COR Services.
Q. I want to take a course in H2S, boom truck, scissor lift, forklift etc. Where do I go?
A. H2S Awareness is available online (this is not H2S Alive). For all other courses contact Training Services for more information.
Q. I want info on asbestos, mold etc.

Q. I want to go to Alberta to work. What courses do I need to take?
A. If you want to set foot on a job site in Alberta, you need to take the CSTS (Construction Safety Training System) course. H2S Awareness is required for some work sites, but make sure you check whether your employer requires H2S Alive or Awareness level (the NSCSA only offers Awareness level.) Contact your employer in Alberta for specific details. Most employers prefer you arrive on the job site with all required training.
Q. I want to take the Fall Protection course. Do I need my own equipment?
A. Yes you are required to provide your own CSA approved harness. Check course descriptions prior to arriving for your course to ensure you have the proper equipment.
Q. Can I take a course outside of Dartmouth?
A. Yes, there are several courses available in areas throughout Nova Scotia. Check our schedule for listings which may be closer to you.
Q. Who can I speak to about sponsoring a NSCSA event?
A. You can contact our Communications Supervisor for information regarding sponsoring or attending NSCSA events. Each year we host an Annual General Meeting and Awards and we always have opportunities available to sponsor youth safety initiatives in the workplace.
