Online Course Details

Fire Extinguisher Awareness

Course Length: 1.5 hours
Cost: $99 + HST

The online Fire Extinguisher course (designed by Pixelyard Productions Inc.) is led by an online safety training instructor, who covers the course at your convenience. The course is supported by a number of multi-media tools; such as, video sequences, photographs, animations and interactive 3D models that provide a ‘virtual hands-on’ experience.

Through this course, participants will gain a basic understanding of the chemistry of fire and the proper actions to take upon discovering a fire. Participants will also learn to identify the different types of fire and correctly select and use the proper fire extinguishers for each.

 

Gas Detector Awareness

Course Length: 1.5 hours
Cost: $99 + HST

The online Gas Detector course (designed by Pixelyard Productions Inc.) was developed to provide participants with an understanding of alarms, detection and the different monitoring devices required to detect a hazardous gas such as H2S. Participants will also learn the common operating guidelines for detector usage, how to zero, functionally test, reset peak values and how to test a space with a detector tube device.

A printable certificate will be provided upon successful completion of the training.

 

H2S Recognition/Awareness

Course Length: 5.5 hours
Cost: $249 + HST

Online H2S Recognition (designed by Pixelyard Productions Inc.) is designed for workers who may be at risk of coming in contact with H2S in their workplace. These workers require the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize potential H2S hazards, how to take precautions to avoid injury or death through exposure to H2S and to engage in self-rescue and the basic rescue and revival of others.

This course is strongly recommended for workers in the agricultural, shipping, mining and pulp and paper industries. It is also strongly recommended for paramedics, construction workers, transportation workers and waste management service personnel.

A printable certificate of completion will be provided on fulfillment of all course requirements.

 

SCBA Awareness

Course Length: 1.5 hours
Cost: $99 + HST

The online Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) course (designed by Pixelyard Productions Inc.) has been developed to provide participants with an understanding of the components, use and limitations of the SCBA.

Participants will also learn how to perform a Visual Inspection, Leak Test and Alarm/Function Check and how to properly don and doff the SCBA.

A printable certificate of completion will be provided on fulfillment of all course requirements.

 

Scaffolding 

Cost: $149 + HST

The proper erection and use of scaffolding is a primary safety concern for construction and industrial trades, and a standard topic for ongoing upgrade training in those occupations. Scaffolding introduces students to basic principles, guidelines for use and common components and terminology. The module reviews the procedures for assembling frame scaffolding and provides detailed step by step instruction and hands-on exercises in the correct procedures for assembling modular system and tube and clamp scaffolding systems. Interactive 3d models of components and tools provide students with a clear understanding of each step and how it must be performed. By practicing assembly procedures using the Scaffolding module students can be better prepared, and more confident, when they move to the shop for their practical training.

Rigging 

Cost: $199 + HST

A sound understanding of rigging is a critical part of the skill set for many trades and technical occupations. Pixelyard’s Rigging module uses interactive 3D models and other media elements to provide trainees with accurate, easy to understand instruction on Wire Rope, Slings and Rigging Hardware. Through narrated animations and exercises trainees are introduced to a wide range of rigging components and associated terminology, guidelines for their use, including Safety Factors and Working Load Limit (WLL) calculations.

Interactive 3d models of components and tools provide trainees with a valuable way to clearly visualize rigging components and their use. Trainees will complete several Knowledge Check exercise to validate their training, identify areas of weakness for further review and to prepare them for hands-on work on the job.

WHMIS Generic

Course Length: 1-3 hours
Cost: $30 + HST

This training program will inform the participant on Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) labels and their proper use, the Material Safety Date Sheets and their use, and employer and workers’ responsibility for hazardous materials in the workplace.

Safety Orientation

Course Length: 1-3 hours
Cost: $30 + HST

This training program will inform the participant on employer and employee rights and responsibilities under the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act. Instruction concentrates on topics including, joint occupational health and safety committees, personal protective equipment (PPE), accident reporting, awareness, electrical hazards and safety rules and regulations.

  1. To register for any online course, you must first create a user ID. To do this, click the "here" above Username.

  2. Complete all fields on the registration screen. An asterisk (*) indicates a field that must be completed in order to register. Once you have completed all required fields, click "Submit" on the bottom of the screen.

  3. You have now successfully registered your username. To register and pay for an online course, click "Log in".

  4. When you log in, you will see the screen below. Click "Catalog" then "Browse" on the left hand menu.
