IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING NSCSA LETTERS

OF GOOD STANDING

The Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association (NSCSA) is committed to achieving a positive

occupational health and safety culture within the Nova Scotia construction industry. In order to

continue to move towards this goal, we are currently making changes in an attempt to strengthen the

integrity of our audit process.

Effective January 1, 2010 the designation of “In the Process” will no longer be available. First time

companies that would like to achieve certification with the NSCSA will need to complete a successful

audit in order to receive a Letter of Good Standing.

These changes will affect your organization in one of three ways;

Companies that are currently certified with the NSCSA will no longer have a three month grace

period prior to their certificate lapsing.

Those who are having an internal audit review will need to submit their audit 30 days prior to

the expiry of their Letter of Good Standing.

And, those who are going through an external audit process will need to submit their

completed internal audit 45 days prior to the expiry of their Letter of Good Standing.

The expiry of a company’s certificate letter, along with the type of audit they will be participating in, will

be communicated to each customer in their Anniversary Audit package.

Companies that are already certified with the NSCSA must have appropriate training for the size

of their company prior to recertification. For example, if a company started as an Owner Operator

and completed the Owner Operator training but now has 5 or more employees, someone from the

company must complete the COR program prior to recertification.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these changes, please do not hesitate to contact our

Audit department at 902.468.6696 or 1.800.971.3888.

Audits

An audit measures the quality and results of your safety program. Your company must conduct a yearly self-audit to achieve and maintain the NSCSA Certificate of Recognition status.

The NSCSA provides an audit instrument for companies going through the COR process. Your company must complete this audit and return it to the NSCSA for review. Firms re-certifying receive one copy free on their renewal date. However, the audit instrument is a useful tool for any company looking to evaluate its safety program.
